Galveston Island offers a wide variety of excellent dining options, from casual local favorites to waterfront seafood restaurants. Yes. If you are interested in hiring a private guide or extending your birding experience before or after the tour, we can recommend trusted local birding guides in the Galveston area. Requests should be made in advance and are subject to guide availability.

A full birding checklist will be provided by email or via eBird.

Galveston is home to 200+ species recorded on the life list.

Our guide, Bob Becker, has had multiple exceptional years birding Galveston, with 300+ species counts recorded.

Spring migration on the Upper Texas Coast is one of the most productive birding events in North America. Species commonly encountered include:

  • Warblers, tanagers, thrushes, and buntings

  • Shorebirds and wading birds

  • Herons, egrets, ibises, and spoonbills

  • Raptors, pelicans, and seabirds

During favorable weather conditions, large migration fallouts may occur, producing extraordinary numbers and diversity of species. A full bird list will be provided on the tour page.

The peak spring migration window in Galveston runs from early to late April, which is why all Premier Birding Tours tours are scheduled during this time. These dates offer the best opportunity for Trans-Gulf migrants, nesting rookery activity, and overall bird diversity.

We recommend bringing:

  • Binoculars (essential)
  • Camera with telephoto lens (optional)
  • Comfortable walking shoes
  • Lightweight, weather-appropriate clothing
  • Hat, sunscreen, and insect repellent
  • Refillable water bottle
  • Lightweight rain jacket
  • Insect repellent (DEET-free recommended, as DEET can be harmful to camera equipment)

This is a non-strenuous tour with easy walking, but comfort and sun protection are important.

Tour accommodations are arranged by Premier Birding Tours and are included in the tour package. We stay at Hilton-brand hotels in convenient locations near birding sites. Participants choosing to arrive early or stay after the tour may book additional nights directly with the hotel.

Rain won’t dampen the experience! We have exclusive access to indoor viewing areas and carefully monitor local conditions to work around passing showers. Why Spring Migration Galveston Is Special

Set during peak migration, April 13-16 or 21-24, offers great timing before and after the massive crowds of Featherfest.
